Gandhi Gandhi And Essence Of His Movement - 1613 Words

Secular Gandhi and Essence of his movement in Revolutionizing Congress Mahatma Gandhi was a political and spiritual leader, though not in a religious sense. He was a religious person but believed that all religions were equal and did not advocate on religion over another. Gandhi was born in 1869 in Porbandar on the Western coast of India and raised by Hindu parents, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi found many opportunities in his youth to meet people of all faiths. He had many Christian and Muslim friends, as well as being heavily influenced by Jainism in his youth. Gandhi probably took the religious principle of Ahimsa from his Jain neighbours, and from it developed his own famous principle of Satyagraha later on in his life. Gandhi hoped†¦show more content†¦When he returned to India, his immediate problem was to settle his small band of relatives and associates in an ashram, which was a group life lived in a religious spirit. His ashram was a small model of the whole moral and religious ideal. It did not enforce on its inmates any theology or ri tual, but only a few simple rules of personal conduct. More like a large family than a monastery, it was filled with children and senior citizens, the uneducated and American and European scholars, devout followers and thinly disguised sceptics - a melting pots of different and sometimes opposing ideas, living peacefully and usefully with each other. He was the moral father of the ashram, and would fast as penance when any wrong was committed within its walls. Everyone was bound to him by love and a fear of hurting him. His increasing influence over the Indian masses with satyagraha , which he first coined in his South Africa campaigns, was no less different. Gandhi s involvement with politics in the region meant that he had to tread carefully around the sometimes conflicting ideals of the Hindus and Muslims in the Indian National Congress. Although he initially believed that the British colonial influence was a good one, he was increasingly aware that to be truly equal, the Indians would need independence from British rule. When he and other members of the Congress were arrested on 9 August 1942 for promoting this idea, a wave of violent disobedience swept

Angelabrafford-Phil Essay - 830 Words

Angela Brafford PHIL 201 February 18, 2013 Essay Great philosophers such as Plato, Socrates and Descartes developed theories thousands of years ago which changed the thought processes of many. These theories today are still influencing the lives of others. The Matrix, a very well-known movie released in 1999, retelling Plato’s theory, questioned the existence of reality and /or what we perceive as reality. The Matrix, Plato’s ‘Allegory of the Cave’ and Descartes ‘Meditation I’, all have similar views on reality, illusion and truth. Allegory of the Cave is a metaphor that describes what Plato believed reality to be. Plato believed that the things we perceive are†¦show more content†¦He thought that this couldn’t be taught but that one had to see reality for themselves. The first time that the prisoners would see the real world, it would be very bright and confusing but later would adjust to the brightness of the light after spending some t ime outside of the cave, in the real world. The real world and the form beyond he senses. The Matrix shows us that thought does indeed exist, while Rene Descartes says, â€Å"I think, therefore, I am.† Neo and Morpheus thought that the body could not live without the mind and is only a medium for the mind. Thoughts are truths and power and the body is secondary to our thoughts. In the first Meditation, Descartes explains the hypothesis that gives him reason to doubt everything he perceives and believes. He uses the ‘Method of Doubt ‘to seek out what is true by withholding assent from all beliefs that are uncertain. He placed his beliefs into groups: senses, reason and imagination. He ignored all that he believed to be true and if any belief could be doubted, therefore it was not certain as being reliable as a foundation. Descartes ‘ Dream Argument ‘ was based on one’s senses alone, stating there is no definite way to prove if you are awak e or asleep and dreaming. This in turn, proves that truths based on one’s senses are doubtful and unreliable and one’s perceptions and knowledge of reality is controlled. We decide what is real

Film Overview Saving Private Ryan Essay This is a 1998 American film. It was written by Robert Rodat and directed by Steven Spielberg (Rodat, 1998). In this film, there were soldiers who had been assigned to find Ryan and take him back home. They had all the capacities to do the assignments themselves. The staff’s Army Chief assigned them the mission for tenacities of propaganda. This is because the return of Ryan would increase home-front’s morale and offer a human face on the massacre that took place at Omaha Beach. The mother of Ryan who had already lost three of his sons to the warfare vowed not to lose another one. Saving Private Ryan’ is a war film. It can also be classified as an action or epic genre since most war films are frequently paired with other genres like action and epics. The first twenty seven minutes of the film are so intense and they depict the assault that took place in the beach of Omaha on June 6, 1944. There is also evidence of a squad of soldiers. It can be said to be an action genre because it encompasses fights and battles. It is a coincidence that the principal partner of the DreamWorks Studios happens to be Steven Spielberg (Natale, 1998). DreamWorks Studios has been rated as the most successful and influential in the film industry. This greatly enhanced the marketing of the ‘Saving Private Ryan’ film. The reputation that both Amblin Entertainment and DreamWorks Studios have in the film industry made it easy for the film to attract a wide consumer base. It also enhanced the making the movie as it was easier to obtain the required finances. The budget for this film was seventy million U. S dollars. Getting finance for such a huge amount of money from investors required a production company that had a good reputation and well-established. This film was distributed by DreamWorks Pictures that is based in the United States and Paramount Pictures which is an international film distribution company. The marketing strategy for this film was through the use of an extraordinarily aggressive and expensive campaign by the distributors. The campaign was equally carried out by an American entertainment company known as Miramax (Kelley, 1999). These campaigns were done before the film was released. The main aim of these campaigns was to create awareness for the film so that many people would either purchase it to watch or go to the cinemas to watch. .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7 , .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7 .postImageUrl , .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7 , .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7:hover , .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7:visited , .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7:active { border:0!important; } .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7:active , .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7 .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u50421f209c017e624e0db02478ce17b7:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Film Review - Walt Disney's Frozen EssayAll this is for the purposes of enhancing its profitability.
